VintageKid’s Commitment to Sustainability

It is estimated that the fashion industry contributes to around 83,460 kgs of waste per year. This clothing is sent to landfills where it produces an estimated 1,088,621,688,000 kgs of greenhouse gas emissions. The environmental impact of clothing has increased a lot since the rise of “fast fashion”. Fast fashion refers to the production of inexpensive, rapidly produced trendy clothing. This clothing is also a large source of microplastics and is estimated to contribute up to 35% of the total contamination found in our oceans. In addition to microplastics, there is also a link between intensive water and pesticide use in its production that result in the contamination of our soil, water, and air. VintageKid’s mission is to help reduce the harmful environment impacts of the clothing industry and encourage other businesses to adopt a more circular economic model.

VintageKid has helped save over 15 000 kg CO2

Why you should buy secondhand:

Every time you opt to buy something used instead of new, you are voting with your dollars to tell companies that you do not support the excessive amount of textile waste produced by the fashion industry. This can be beneficial to the environment because if there is more public demand for sustainability, it will force companies to reconsider the impact of their current business models. Shopping secondhand also helps to divert perfectly good clothing from landfills to be used again.
